Digital photography is now an advanced technology and we are fortunate to have a digital retinal camera in our practice. This means that a photograph can be taken of your retina (often without using dilating drops) which is then stored on the computer.

This image provides useful information about the health of the blood vessels in the back of your eye and helps with the assessment and monitoring of conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension, and age-related maculopathy.

If there is any sign of disease, the photo can be emailed to your doctor for appropriate action. By using comparisons at future examinations, the photographs are also very useful to monitor any changes in eye conditions.

Retinal photography only takes a few minutes and is completely painless – just like having any photo taken.
